SUMMARY:Roby Simons: What’s with those Abandoned Buildings in Netanya?
DESCRIPTION:What’s with those Abandoned Buildings in Netanya?\nRoby Simons\n19:30 Sunday 11 October \nThere are several high-profile dead buildings in Netanya\, on the north side of the Kikar\, south of the Kikar right on the beach on Danker\, and the old hotel north of Blue Bay. They’ve been around for a decade or more. What were they at their peak? How did they get to their current situation? Why hasn’t that site been redeveloped\, and what can we expect in the future? I’ll apply a real estate and urban planning perspective to analyzing these sites. \nRobert A. Simons retired in 2024 after serving 34 years as a Professor of Real Estate and Urban Planning at the Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University in Cleveland\, Ohio. From 2020-2023\, he served as the Chair/Director of the School of Urban Affairs. He also supervised the graduate Certificate Program in Real Estate Development and Finance\, and directed the Master of Urban Planning\, Design and Development program. During Fall 2005\, Dr. Simons was a Fulbright Scholar at Wits University in Johannesburg\, South Africa. Dr. Simons received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in City and Regional Planning\, with an emphasis in real estate. \nMembers Prepaid – NIS 40 \nNon-members and Members at the Door – NIS 60 \nPrepaid ticketing available until noon on the day of the event. \nNearby Parking: (one block north of Netanya AACI\, approach from the north on Shmuel Hanatziv to turn right into the driveway just before the traffic circle) \nUsing Waze: https://waze.com/ul/hsv8zcjvhf \nUsing Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/teDPagS7GRUi5VzY8 \n

SUMMARY:50 Years Since "Operation Yonatan" (Entebbe Raid) and Three Years Since The October 7 Massacre – These Two Events are Connected in Many Ways
DESCRIPTION:50 Years Since “Operation Yonatan” (Entebbe Raid) and Three Years Since The October 7 Massacre – These Two Events are Connected in Many Ways\nPresented by Rami Sherman\n19:30 Tuesday 15 September \nDuring the Entebbe hostage rescue\, Rami Sherman was “Operations Officer” of the unit that performed the rescue. Why is it important to discuss this event 50 years later? What happened during the hijacking? What was the response\, in Israel and in the diaspora\, to the operation and what was the impact on the relations between the State of Israel and the world? Lastly\, how is the Entebbe hostage rescue connected to the October 7 massacre? Rami will talk about these questions and more. \nRami Sherman’s parents were Holocaust survivors who came to Israel in 1946. Rami grew up on Kibbutz Lehavot Habashan in the north of the country which is located only 500 meters from the Syrian border. In 1972\, he enlisted in the army and was accepted into an elite unit\, “Sayeret Matkal”. In 1976\, an Air France airliner was hijacked and rerouted to Entebbe. At that time\, he served as an “operation officer” of the unit under the command of Yoni Netanyahu z” l\, and in this position\, he was involved in preparing the operation. Rami was on the first Hercules that landed in Entebbe and took part in the fight in the old terminal to rescue the hostages. \nThis year\, 2026\, we marked the 50th anniversary commemorating “Operation Yonatan”. Rami flew to Entebbe as an Israeli and landed back in Israel as a Jew\, but it has taken him 40 years to realize what that means. Since 1990 he has worked as a physiotherapist for the Israeli Olympic team. In 1993\, his family moved to Kibbutz Maagan Michael. He is married and has two daughters and five grandchildren. \nMembers pre-paid NIS 40 \nMembers at door and non-members NIS 60 \nPrepaid tickets available until noon on the day of this event. \nPurchase tickets below\, call the box office 09-8330950 or pay at the door. \n  \nNearby Parking: (one block north of Netanya AACI\, approach from the north on Shmuel Hanatziv to turn right into the driveway just before the traffic circle) \nUsing Waze: https://waze.com/ul/hsv8zcjvhf \nUsing Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/teDPagS7GRUi5VzY8

SUMMARY:Addiction and Alcoholism - Two Sides of the Same Coin
DESCRIPTION:Addiction and Alcoholism – Two Sides of the Same Coin \nPresented by Gaye Turiel and Paulette Woolf \n11:30 Sunday 9 August \nAddiction is a chronic\, progressive brain disorder and can be fatal. According to the latest data\, alcoholism is on the rise in Israel\, with kids starting to drink at younger and younger ages. The good news is that addictions are treatable. She will describe her own personal journey – having achieved 17 years of sobriety to date. Most importantly\, she will advocate on behalf of the need for greater awareness of this disease at all levels of society\, including within the medical community. \nGaye Turiel\, B Soc Sci (Social Work) NAADAC (CERTIFIED ADDICTIONS COUNSELLOR) is the managing director of a consultancy specialising in female and male resilience\, and individual\, couple\, family and group interventions. \nPaulette served for 20 years in a number of senior capacities at the United Nations. SUMMARY:Danny Weissfeld: Guitarist with a Story: Choosing Israel - Live Music & Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Guitarist with a Story: Choosing Israel – Live Music & Lecture\nDanny Weissfeld\n19:30 Sunday 26 July \nDanny Weissfeld\, an acclaimed Israeli-American guitarist\, has spent decades performing on the world’s most prestigious stages alongside global icons like Kelly Clarkson\, James Blunt\, and Anastacia. But behind the bright lights and the successful international career lay a profound personal dilemma. \nIn this moving live music and lecture presentation\, Danny opens up about his decision to leave Israel after his military service to pursue the “American Dream.” He shares raw stories from his years in the US—from the heights of professional comfort and luxury to the jarring encounters with rising antisemitism that forced him to view his identity in a new light. \nDanny dives deep into the internal tug-of-war: the struggle of choosing between a flourishing career abroad and the visceral pull toward his homeland. He discusses the challenges of reintegrating into Israeli society\, the sacrifices made along the way\, and the ultimate realization that despite the hardships\, coming home was the most rewarding chord he ever struck. \nThrough live guitar performances and honest dialogue\, Danny explores what it truly means to choose Israel every day\, offering a unique perspective on Jewish identity\, resilience\, and the meaning of “home” in an ever-changing world. \nMembers pre-paid NIS 40\nMembers at door and non-members NIS 60 \nPurchase tickets below\, call the box office 09-8330950 (Sunday-Thursday 8:30-12:30) or pay at the door. \nPrepaid tickets available until noon on the day of this event.

Situated in the remote reaches of the solar system\, far from the Sun\, Saturn has been a planet of mystery\, drawing the attention of astronomers ever since Galileo discovered the rings with his telescope. \nNASA’s Cassini spacecraft orbited Saturn for over a decade\, exploring the planet and its moons and making truly astounding discoveries that changed the way we think of planets and objects that orbit them. Cassini carried the Huygens probe that landed on Saturn’s moon Titan\, the first ever landing on any body in the outer solar system. \nCome join us for a voyage of discovery of how this marvelous feat was accomplished and what Cassini told us about Saturn\, its moons and its phenomenal ring system. \nArmed with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and an MS in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT\, Harley started working at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab in 1978. He spent most of his time there working on the Galileo spacecraft that eventually orbited Jupiter. Harley made Aliyah in 1981 and worked in the technology sector until retiring in 2019. He has been living in Netanya since 1984. He has an ongoing passion for all things astronomical and loves sharing it with others. \nMembers NIS 30 \nNon-members and Members at the door NIS 50 \nPurchase tickets below\, call the box office 09-8330950 or pay at the door. SUMMARY:Aron Heller - Zaidy’s Band: From Fighting Nazis to the Birth of Israel
DESCRIPTION:Zaidy’s Band: From Fighting Nazis to the Birth of Israel\nGuest Speaker: Aron Heller\n19:30 Sunday 31 May \nJoin journalist Aron Heller as he discusses his decade-long journey to uncover his grandfather’s hidden World War II past\, exposing a colourful cast of a Jewish Canadian “band of brothers” along the way. A powerful blend of memoir\, history and mystery\, the book reveals how even the humblest acts of World War II service shaped a generation and left a lasting impact for years to come. These men played key roles in the defining events of their time – fighting against Nazism and contributing to the establishment of Israel. Their voices\, however\, are not mere relics of the past. The dilemmas they faced – faith\, belonging\, courage and sacrifice – continue to resonate today\, shaping the Jewish experience as we confront rising antisemitism and the challenges facing the Jewish state. \nAron Heller is an Israel-based writer and broadcaster\, and the author of the book Zaidy’s Band\, The Untold Stories of a Jewish Band of Brothers in World War II. He focuses on technology storytelling and podcasting and was previously a long-time Associated Press correspondent and journalism lecturer. \nLearn more and order the book at https://aronheller.com/ \nMembers pre-paid NIS 40\nMembers at door and non-members NIS 60 \nPurchase tickets below\, call the box office 09-8330950 (Sunday-Thursday 8:30-12:30) or pay at the door. \nPrepaid tickets available until noon on the day of this event.
