SUMMARY:Tiyul - Gaza Border\, Nova\, and Sderot: A Guided Journey of Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:Gaza Border\, Nova\, and Sderot: A Guided Journey of Remembrance \nWednesday 21 October \nOn October 7\, 2023\, Israel faced a tragic terrorist attack by Hamas in the Gaza Envelope\, resulting in the loss of about 1\,500 lives and the kidnapping of approximately 250 Israelis. Join us on a professional and informative tour as we visit some significant sites affected by this devastating event. This Tiyul offers firsthand insights into the history\, the aftermath of the massacre\, and the lasting impact of the attack. The itinerary includes visits to key sites that tell the harrowing yet inspiring story of survival\, bravery\, and unity. \nWe’ll begin our journey in Sderot\, a city that has suffered from rockets for 20 years\, where you’ll take in a panoramic view of the region as your guide shares the history and the significance of October 7. Then\, we’ll visit the Police Station Memorial\, a site that stands as a tribute to extraordinary acts of bravery and resilience. We’ll also pay our respects at the monument for the Lookout Tower Girls\, honouring those who were killed or kidnapped that day. \nNext\, we’ll visit the Nova Festival site and have a moment to reflect on those who lost their lives\, where their moments of joy were overshadowed by tragedy. From there\, we’ll stop at the lot of burned cars. This haunting memorial site reflects the sheer brutality of the massacre and stands as a powerful visual testament to the atrocities that took place. We’ll also make a brief stop at a bomb shelter near a bus stop – a stark symbol of daily life in this region. This specific shelter became a refuge for those fleeing the attack\, including Aner Shapira & Hersh Goldberg Polin\, whose stories have become a testament to courage in the face of terror. \nOur final stop will take us to a local kibbutz that experienced the October 7 attack where a resident will share a personal perspective\, providing a unique and intimate testimony. These once-thriving agricultural communities now face the monumental task of rebuilding – which is not guaranteed. \nPlease note\, the order of sites may differ from listed and not all are guaranteed. \nMembers NIS 200     Non-members NIS 230 \nDepart heading south\, first pick-up:\nYoung Israel 07:30\nReturn: approx. 18:30  \nPurchase tickets below or call the box office 09-8330950. SUMMARY:Roby Simons: What’s with those Abandoned Buildings in Netanya?
DESCRIPTION:What’s with those Abandoned Buildings in Netanya?\nRoby Simons\n19:30 Sunday 11 October \nThere are several high-profile dead buildings in Netanya\, on the north side of the Kikar\, south of the Kikar right on the beach on Danker\, and the old hotel north of Blue Bay. They’ve been around for a decade or more. What were they at their peak? How did they get to their current situation? Why hasn’t that site been redeveloped\, and what can we expect in the future? I’ll apply a real estate and urban planning perspective to analyzing these sites. \nRobert A. Simons retired in 2024 after serving 34 years as a Professor of Real Estate and Urban Planning at the Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University in Cleveland\, Ohio. From 2020-2023\, he served as the Chair/Director of the School of Urban Affairs. He also supervised the graduate Certificate Program in Real Estate Development and Finance\, and directed the Master of Urban Planning\, Design and Development program. During Fall 2005\, Dr. Simons was a Fulbright Scholar at Wits University in Johannesburg\, South Africa. Dr. Simons received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in City and Regional Planning\, with an emphasis in real estate. \nMembers Prepaid – NIS 40 \nNon-members and Members at the Door – NIS 60 \nPrepaid ticketing available until noon on the day of the event.

SUMMARY:An Artisan Cheese Experience in the Sukkah
DESCRIPTION:An Artisan Cheese Experience in the Sukkah \nWith “Hanan Hagaban\, Hanan the Cheesemaker”\n20:00 Wednesday 30 September\nIn the YINN Sukkah \n(Located on the corner of Shlomo Hamelech and Shaul Hamelech) \n\nLearn about traditional methods and the craft of boutique cheese making directly from the maker\, Hanan Sofer – better known as Hanan Hagaban which means Hanan the Cheesemaker\nSample a variety of artisanal cheeses\, crafted locally at Moshav Herut\, just 15 minutes from Netanya\nEnjoy selections of wine chosen by Hanan to match the flavor profiles of his cheeses\n\nHanan Sofer stepped into the world of cheeses entirely by accident when coming upon a recipe for Tzfat Cheese. He began making cheeses in his home\, then studied the art of cheese making in France and Italy\, and eventually established Hanan Hagaban’s Fromagerie in the middle of an avocado plantation in Moshav Herut. \nHanan and his partner\, Hadar\, renovated an old chicken house on the moshav\, originally built by Hadar’s grandfather\, for the fromagerie. It was important for them to preserve the past while pouring new life into the structure – much like the spirit of the construction of the State of Israel. \nSee www.hagaban.co.il \nPreregistration and Prepayment Required. \nEarly Bird preregistration by 23 September: \nMembers: NIS 75\nNonmembers: NIS 85 \nPreregistration after 23 September until noon 29 September: \nMembers and Nonmembers – NIS 95 \nPurchase tickets below or call the box office 09-8330950.

SUMMARY:NETANYA’S KIDS NEED YOU!
DESCRIPTION:NETANYA’S KIDS NEED YOU!\nOpen Introductory English Tutors Meeting\n11:00 Tuesday 22 September \nEnglish Without Borders is a successful volunteer tutoring programme designed to help local children and youth feel confident in their use of every-day English by engaging them in conversational or basic reading/vocabulary-building activities. In the 2025-2026 academic year\, over a dozen schools received about 36 volunteers. \nWe invite you to join our group of devoted volunteers. Be a part of the fun and help meet the needs of our youth. It is the perfect project for English speakers to give back to Israeli society. \nJoin us at our open introductory meeting if you are a new or returning volunteer. Your basic commitment is two/four hours once/twice a week at an elementary or secondary school talking with 1-4 pupils at a time in coordination with the English teacher at the school. No formal teaching experience is necessary\, but motivation\, caring and patience are required. No Hebrew is necessary. \nFeedback from the 2025-2026 school year: \nWe feel the meetings with our recent volunteers are very effective for the girls. They gain (general) knowledge and maintain and improve their English. The volunteers have a good connection with the girls\, as with me.\nEsther-English coordinator at Ulpanit Bar Ilan girls school\n________________________________________\nBeyond improving their English skills\, the programme has helped enrich their vocabulary\, strengthen their listening comprehension\, and build their confidence in speaking and understanding different accents and teaching styles. The variety each volunteer brings makes the lessons interesting\, enjoyable\, and engaging. The students especially love meeting and connecting with people from different places and backgrounds. They leave each session with huge smiles and a feeling that learning English can actually be fun. The programme also contributes greatly to their social bonding and group connection.\nHelena-Begin School\, Ramat Poleg \nRenee Rosenberg 054-4339470\, Judy Shafarman 052-8496116\nNetanya AACI English Tutoring Project Coordinators (decades of experience between us) \nNo charge for this event.

SUMMARY:50 Years Since "Operation Yonatan" (Entebbe Raid) and Three Years Since The October 7 Massacre – These Two Events are Connected in Many Ways
DESCRIPTION:50 Years Since “Operation Yonatan” (Entebbe Raid) and Three Years Since The October 7 Massacre – These Two Events are Connected in Many Ways\nPresented by Rami Sherman\n19:30 Tuesday 15 September \nDuring the Entebbe hostage rescue\, Rami Sherman was “Operations Officer” of the unit that performed the rescue. Why is it important to discuss this event 50 years later? What happened during the hijacking? What was the response\, in Israel and in the diaspora\, to the operation and what was the impact on the relations between the State of Israel and the world? Lastly\, how is the Entebbe hostage rescue connected to the October 7 massacre? Rami will talk about these questions and more. \nRami Sherman’s parents were Holocaust survivors who came to Israel in 1946. Rami grew up on Kibbutz Lehavot Habashan in the north of the country which is located only 500 meters from the Syrian border. In 1972\, he enlisted in the army and was accepted into an elite unit\, “Sayeret Matkal”. In 1976\, an Air France airliner was hijacked and rerouted to Entebbe. At that time\, he served as an “operation officer” of the unit under the command of Yoni Netanyahu z” l\, and in this position\, he was involved in preparing the operation. Rami was on the first Hercules that landed in Entebbe and took part in the fight in the old terminal to rescue the hostages. \nThis year\, 2026\, we marked the 50th anniversary commemorating “Operation Yonatan”. Rami flew to Entebbe as an Israeli and landed back in Israel as a Jew\, but it has taken him 40 years to realize what that means. Since 1990 he has worked as a physiotherapist for the Israeli Olympic team. In 1993\, his family moved to Kibbutz Maagan Michael. He is married and has two daughters and five grandchildren. \nMembers pre-paid NIS 40 \nMembers at door and non-members NIS 60 \nPrepaid tickets available until noon on the day of this event. \nPurchase tickets below\, call the box office 09-8330950 or pay at the door. \n  \nNearby Parking: (one block north of Netanya AACI\, approach from the north on Shmuel Hanatziv to turn right into the driveway just before the traffic circle) \nUsing Waze: https://waze.com/ul/hsv8zcjvhf \nUsing Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/teDPagS7GRUi5VzY8

SUMMARY:Addiction and Alcoholism - Two Sides of the Same Coin
DESCRIPTION:Addiction and Alcoholism – Two Sides of the Same Coin \nPresented by Gaye Turiel and Paulette Woolf \n11:30 Sunday 9 August \nAddiction is a chronic\, progressive brain disorder and can be fatal. According to the latest data\, alcoholism is on the rise in Israel\, with kids starting to drink at younger and younger ages. The good news is that addictions are treatable. The main symptom of addiction is denial. Recovery helps addicts to develop healthy responses and attitudes. Here the person learns to deal with life on life’s terms dictated by the disease. Recovery is not a single event\, but a long and often difficult process. \nGaye Turiel will talk about the disease and recovery and the fallout and role of family as codependents in helping themselves and the afflicted person. \nPaulette Woolf will discuss the impact of alcoholism on society. She will describe her own personal journey – having achieved 17 years of sobriety to date. Most importantly\, she will advocate on behalf of the need for greater awareness of this disease at all levels of society\, including within the medical community. \nGaye Turiel\, B Soc Sci (Social Work) NAADAC (CERTIFIED ADDICTIONS COUNSELLOR) is the managing director of a consultancy specialising in female and male resilience\, and individual\, couple\, family and group interventions. \nPaulette served for 20 years in a number of senior capacities at the United Nations. In addition to her position as Director of Management Audit\, she successfully established and managed a global internal management consulting function. Paulette is a former Co-Chair of Netanya AACI where she served from 2020-2024. \nMembers pre-paid NIS 30                   \nMembers at door and non-members NIS 50 \nPurchase tickets below\, call the box office 09-8330950 or pay at the door. \nPrepaid ticketing ends at 08:00 on the day of this event.
