Earth Has Nothing to Show More Fair

Earth Has Nothing to Show More Fair

Don Silverberg’s Personal Collection of Some of Its Wonders

On display from 29 January until Thursday 16 March

In 2018, at the age of 81, a casual suggestion by Don’s wife Myrna (Sharon) that Don might enjoy painting as a hobby was met with a laugh on his part. The last crayon, colored pencil, water colors, paint brush or other art utensil he had ever used was when he was five years old, but art has always fascinated him and he has over 30 books on the subject.

Happily, he joined a weekly art class at Netanya AACI with Gypsy Ron, an excellent artist and art teacher. After one year, Ruth Lenk took over the class and has continued teaching Don until now.  No category of art was left untaught and each week brought new stimuli and new modes of drawing or painting.

Don now paints many categories of life including forests, trees, lakes, waterfalls, sea shores, mountains, seas, old and young people, animals, and flowers among other subjects.

Don uses pen and ink, charcoal, colored pencils, crayons, pastels, oil pastels and water colors on both white and black paper and has grown into a compulsive artist without a day going by that he is not transfixed with the joy of creation.

Apart from the enjoyment of art for its own sake, it has also been very beneficial in helping cope with health and other issues, especially during the corona lockdown.

A hundred or more of Don’s paintings will be on display at Netanya AACI until 16 March.

The title of the exhibition is from the first lines of Tennyson’s On Westminster Bridge

Earth hath not anything to show more fair and Don continues … The wondrous beauty of it which I have tried to capture in dozens of ways.

Don welcomes your comments.

No charge.
