Garbage, Sewage, Recycling and the Environment
8.30-4.30 Tuesday 19 October
All attendees must have a Green Pass, or evidence of a negative COVID test within the prior 24 hours.
This tiyul gives us an opportunity to see how Israel deals with its waste using environmentally friendly technologies.
We head south and start our day at the Hiriya Dump (Waste Mountain) in the Hiriya Recycling Park. Advanced technologies have transformed Hiriya into an international leader in the field of solid waste management. During our tour, we will see the separation processes, the transfer station and the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) plant that reduces the amount of waste sent for landfill and produces fuel from mixed municipal waste.
After a break for lunch, we continue south to Igudan (the Dan Region Association of Towns for Sewage and Environmental Issues). Igudan promotes and fosters environmental awareness in the community. Igudan’s Visitors’ Center, located in Rishon LeZion in the Shafdan Plant, is committed to environmental education. The interactive experience at the Center combines educational films, a simulation of an underground pipe and an introduction to the water cycling process.
Bring your own lunch or buy a snack at the kosher café at Hiriya.
