Independence Trail – Walking Tour

Join us three days before Israel’s 75th birthday for a walking tour of old Tel Aviv,
Our bus will take us to HaTachana, situated between Tel Aviv and Jaffa. Built in 1892 as the terminus of the Jaffa Jerusalem railway, it operated until 1948. In 2010 after extensive restoration, it re-opened as a center of culture and leisure. We will hear stories of the establishment of the railway, the important role it played and about the more recent restoration.
We will walk in the newly completed Park Ha-Mesila featuring the old railway line. We will also see the red line of the light railway, due to open soon, after several delays.
We continue towards Rothschild Boulevard and Tamar will tell us about hotels, hospitals and institutions built in the 20s and 30s.
At Rothschild Boulevard we will join the 10-point Independence Trail which includes: Migdal Shalom, housing the largest mosaic in the Middle East, Alfred Dreyfus statue, Meir Dizengoff’s house where the state was proclaimed and the large synagogue in Tel Aviv where weapons were hidden in the War of Independence.
We will visit the Defense Museum located in the house of Eliyahu Golomb, founder of the Haganah, built in 1923, the Haganah’s secret headquarters.
After our lunch break, we will continue on Rothschild Avenue to hear more stories about the houses and people from the periods before and after independence.
