Rosh Hashana L’Chaim & Volunteer Award Event
4.00pm Sunday 10 September
The success of Netanya AACI is due to the dedication of a huge team of devoted volunteers who contribute selflessly and enthusiastically to our many activities throughout the year. We will be saluting their tremendous achievements and showing our appreciation of their wonderful work at our Bill Bernstein Volunteer Event. Bill Bernstein was a man who embodied the true sense of volunteerism, and it is his spirit that we see in so many of our volunteers which allows us to grow from strength to strength. The afternoon is dedicated to all our volunteers, collators, deliverers, and members of Management.
This year we are pleased to honour three individuals who have made a dramatic difference to our programming and our strength as an amuta (nonprofit) organization.
Norman Kotler is an accomplished attorney, who brought his US training to Israel in 1987. He settled with his family in Netanya that year and, soon after that, he and his wife Janet became members of Netanya AACI. When Norman retired in 2019, he began volunteering at Netanya AACI in the Membership department and in other capacities. With his background, Norman was immediately able to contribute to Netanya AACI in support of our executive management, in going the extra mile for such difficult tasks as putting together the recent amuta and city application packages, and in continually helping us understand our amuta requirements. Further, Norman started the very successful Pilates programme which is a valuable addition to our exercise portfolio and a highlight of the week for its participants. For these and other contributions, we thank you.
Harley Zipori is well known to our members who have enjoyed our hiking and walking programmes. Harley took responsibility for developing these programmes during COVID as a way to help our members of all fitness levels get out of their homes. Harley has also had great success in bringing the popular folk club to Netanya AACI. We’ve seen how Harley shares his visceral love of music with his fellow performers and with his audience. Harley, thank you for your many contributions to our programming.
Harley’s response: First and foremost, the AACI is about community. I am happy sharing my love for the outdoors and the country we live in as well as my passion for the Israeli Anglo music scene that has been one of the great joys of living in Israel for the past 40 plus years.
Sharon Wilensky knows music like nobody’s business. Since Sharon made Aliya from South Africa and began volunteering with Netanya AACI, she has started numerous popular music programmes, including Sing Along with Sharon, Musical Bingo and others, and thus she has integrated music into the fabric of our calendar. In addition, she helps us solve problems and fill gaps in our ability to do certain programmes. Sharon is also contributing to our strategic planning process and our management team. Sharon, thank you for your creative contributions to Netanya AACI.
Our Volunteer Appreciation Event is combined with our annual L’Chaim to the High Holidays. This is a lovely opportunity to get together with all your Netanya AACI friends and wish one another a Shana Tova.
All members of the community are invited to join us.
