Tiyul – Literature, Jewellery & Coffee
Tuesday 27 August – SOLD OUT!
This day in the Jerusalem area will give us a taste of the arts, philanthropy, and caffeine!
At the magnificently renewed National Library, we will look at the most ancient, rare, and precious manuscripts in the library that are on permanent exhibit, learning of the power of text in human culture and the power of words to bring about change among people across the world. We will take in the library’s structure and the architectural philosophy behind it, have a look at the rotating exhibits, and view works of art.
Our second stop is at the Yvel Design Centre, where we will explore the remarkable process of pearl formation and the intricate jewellery manufacturing processes at Yvel. At the core of YDC is the Megemeria School of Jewellery & Art, a philanthropic initiative established by Orna and Isaac Levy in 2010 that provides Ethiopian immigrants with the skills and platform to transform their lives through art. Visitors can learn about the students’ dedication and support their journey by purchasing their unique, handcrafted jewellery. We will tour the production facility and witness the entire manufacturing process, including diamond setting, goldsmithing, product development, pearl stringing, quality control, and more. Our visit will conclude with a wine tasting in Yvel’s 19th-century ancient wine cellar, sampling fine wines from the Judean region and the original Yvel brand wine.
For lunch we will continue on to Emek Refaim Street where you can either purchase lunch from one of the eateries or bring your own packed lunch.
We will end the day with a coffee tasting session where we will sample different types and blends of coffee, leaving you wide awake for a sing-along on the journey home!
