The Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality and the Israeli Opera are proud to present “Madama Butterfly” – the favourite and tragic opera by Giacomo Puccini.

Set in early 20th Century Japan, it tells the story of Cio-Cio-San, a geisha who marries an American naval officer named Pinkerton. He abandons her, and when he returns years later with his American wife, Cio-Cio-San takes her own life. The opera is renowned for its emotional music and has become a beloved staple in opera houses worldwide.

The Madama Butterfly Opera in the Park continues the tradition of open opera productions in Ganei Yehoshua Park. Eighteen years have passed since the debut of the La Traviata in Rabin Square in an open production to the public, and since then every year thousands of spectators come to watch these large opera productions that are a great cultural experience for the whole family.

Translation subtitles will appear on side screens in Hebrew. A limited number of chairs will be spread out in the park for the benefit of the general public. It is advisable to bring a blanket to sit on.
