ISRAEL LANDSCAPES – Art Exhibition

May/June 2022

PAVLA PARIK

Artist, architect, art teacher and author of art books

Pavla Parik finished a master’s degree in art and architecture. After several years of architectural practice, she fully concentrated on her artwork. In her work she has focused on several main topics – Israeli landscape, portraits, Judaica, and paintings inspired by Israeli archeology.

Pavla has had several solo exhibitions in Israel. She has also participated in group exhibitions. Her paintings are in many private collections in Israel and Europe.

“To me painting is a bridge between reality and my soul; it is a way to communicate without words. Emotions are an essential part of my creative work. Some of my paintings are realistic, some semi abstract. The ability to balance between styles allows me to capture the essence of more subjects.  Usually, I use acrylic paints on my large-scale paintings, occasionally I also use oil paints, especially when depicting atmospheric phenomena in landscape paintings.”

In this exhibition Pavla presents several paintings from her series of landscapes from Israel’s nature parks that was recently exhibited at the En Afek gallery in En Afek Nature Park.

Originally, she did not plan to create a series of paintings, but the idea arose spontaneously, in reaction to relaxing days spent with family, while hiking, observing and photographing nature.

Pavla finds that she continuously returns to the subject of nature and specifically the land of Israel as her focus, as it is quite urgent to preserve the beauty of our country, as it grows with buildings, nature is being reduced and more garbage is being produced and littered.

She  often feels surprised at the miracle of out landscape that is a gift of everything from greenery to desert, from songbirds to waterfalls, beautiful sea, and it always inspires her to paint.

SHERRY ORBACH

Photographer, Artist

Sherry Orbach has a minor in commercial art/art for advertising. She owned a graphic arts studio for several years in Chicago, servicing clients like Carson Pierre Scott; Marshall Fields, Toys R Us, and Walmart.

She has been a photographer for 40 years, always using Nikon equipment. She began developing film in a darkroom, playing with the use of black and white chemicals for color film. When her children returned to Israel for the army, she traveled to visit them several months per year. Her hikes were always into the nature, mostly off the beaten path, and always alone, to photograph the serenity of the landscapes and the wildlife.

Sherry’s photographs are primarily one-of-a-kind, and not retouched. What you see is what it was at that time because photography is fleeting.  She has never captured the same image twice. Israel is the most spectacular country, and it has always been important for Sherry to make people aware of its intense beauty, so she focuses on absolutes.

Sherry has exhibited in many locations abroad and in Israel, and at one exhibition she was awarded Best In Show, from 200 artists; it was the first time the Juror had ever chosen a photograph. The photography exhibited here was taken in the Judean Hills, the Dead Sea, and Ein Prat outside of Jerusalem.
