Music Lecture: Harvey Bordowitz

The Piano – Revolutionary Invention

7.30pm Monday 14th June

Harvey Bordowitz has been esteemed as one of this country’s most innovative and creative conductors and music directors and has guest-conducted orchestras throughout the world. For over 40 years he has lectured in both Hebrew and English on a vast range of musical topics, with humor, erudition and a deep love of music.  Harvey has prepared our next program in honor of the 16th International Arthur
Rubinstein Piano Competition.  From the revolutionary birth of the piano in 1711, music would never again be the same. Art and invention merged hand in hand, as the baroque elegance of the harpsichord yielded to its successor – the pianoforte. We will follow the development of the piano as it achieved super-stardom on the concert stage, and hear masterworks by Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and others, in peerless performances by great virtuosos of the past and present.
We will also hear performances by the legendary Arthur Rubinstein himself, as well as his reminiscences about his long illustrious career and his love of Israel and Jerusalem. How fitting and how moving it is that we pay tribute to his memory and his art, in the land he loved so much!
