The Saga of Swedish Jewry: Small but Mighty and the Challenges They Face
Lecture by: Evan Brotman
19:30 Tuesday 3 September
On premises only
Join us for an insightful lecture on the history and current challenges of Sweden’s Jewish minority. The speaker, Evan Brotman, is an oleh from Stockholm and an Israel tour guide.
The journey made by the Jews of Sweden, who have been allowed to live openly only since the late 18th century, has been a unique one yet profoundly affected by events in the world around them. Despite their small numbers, they have made significant contributions to Swedish society. This community faces considerable challenges as the country undergoes rapid demographic changes.
This event offers a valuable opportunity to deepen your understanding of the Jewish heritage in Sweden and the ongoing narrative of cultural integration and adaptation. Sweden and its Jewish minority form a compelling tale of the Nordic region’s largest Jewish community, a small yet vibrant part of the greater European Jewish experience.
