Tiyul: Glass, Archaeology & Paratroopers
Thursday 14 November
At the heart of Kibbutz Nahsholim stands an impressive stone building, dating from 1891, built by Baron Edmond de Rothschild as a glass bottle factory for the wineries at Zichron Ya’akov and Rishon LeZion. Although the factory closed soon after it was opened, today, Hamizgaga transports visitors back in time to the ancient city of Dor and its port. Displayed alongside these antiques, we will see contemporary glass and ceramic art pieces.
After lunch we will journey back south and to a closer time period in history. Chana Senesh House is a centre established in Kibbutz Sdot Yam which celebrates this paratrooper and poet. We will be immersed in an audiovisual display presenting Chana Senesh’s life story, mission and death and be privileged to view her poems, sections of her diary, photographs and original items.
To end the trip, we will visit the Caesarea Antiquity Museum, in which unique archaeological finds from Caesarea and its surroundings are displayed.
