Mysteries of the West Wall of Jerusalem’s Old City

Walking tour – Guide:  Effi Yaacobi

Tuesday 31 May

Join Effi, our veteran Aussie guide, on a unique and fascinating tour just a couple of days after Yom Yerushalayim. Feel the history and magic of this often-unexplored part of the west wall of Jerusalem’s old city.  This is not a tour of the Kotel – but rather of the western wall of the old city.  We begin at Kikar Tzahal, outside of the old city and make our way southward following the walking path along the city’s walls. We will be seeing architecture from a myriad of periods, as well as hearing fascinating stories and legends to which those ancient stones bore witness.

*Why did Israeli Forces blow up a Christian monastery in 1948 and then destroy it in 1967?

*Where will you find a stone of Roman pillar upside down?

*How do we know that the 10th Roman Legion was in Jerusalem?

*Why is Abraham mentioned in an Ottoman Koran script, and not Mohammed?

*Is there really a Teddy Kollek tree?

*Learn about a metal tunnel used by Jewish pilgrims for 19 years.

*How did a Muslim family manage to fool Christians and Jews for centuries in one of the largest scams ever revealed?

These are just a few of the fascinating points that we’ll be exploring with Effi on this tour.

The walk along the wall is one and a half kilometers, ending at David’s Tomb where there are 12 steps to climb.  From there we will take a 15-minute walk, ending our tour at Jaffa Gate via the Armenian Quarter.

Please bring packed lunch, drinks and wear comfortable shoes.
