We are pleased to welcome back Ande Harkov for a two-part lecture series.

Ande has an ability to bring famous historical events to life.

He does this by providing little-known and behind -the-scenes facts that put the events into context, explaining not only how but why these events occurred.

Please join us for a fascinating discourse.

The USS Liberty: What really happened and why?

The USS Liberty incident was an attack on a United States Navy technical research ship (spy ship), USS Liberty, by Israeli Air Force jet fighter aircraft and Israeli Navy motor torpedo boats, on 8 June 1967, during the Six-Day War.

Ande Harkov officially made Aliyah in 2007. In 2009 he received an award from Governor Jon Corzine, recognizing his contribution in the fight against the death penalty in New Jersey, which was finally abolished in 2007. He became a Yad Vashem guide in 2011. To date he has guided over 700 groups, including delegations from numerous law schools and universities across the globe, and official delegations from Canada, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Italy, Norway, Portugal, the European Union, Singapore, India, Sri Lanka and the United States.

Ande graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill-School of Law in 1982 and immediately worked as a pollster for Governor Mario Cuomo in his first gubernatorial campaign. Afterwards, he worked for the Office of the Public Defender – State of New Jersey for six years before starting his own law firm, eventually practicing law with his wife. Ande’s entire career was devoted to criminal defense in state and federal trial courts and a variety of appellate courts. During his career he represented a number of high-profile clients including nine death penalty defendants. In addition, Ande was appellate counsel for numerous clients who received new trials following successful appeals, including ten reported cases. Since making Aliyah, Ande has continued to write criminal appellate briefs.
