Yaron Hovav: Gaza – From a Pastoral Port City to a Strip of Terror
19:30 Sunday 11 January
This is an in-depth lecture exploring the historical development of Gaza — from its early days as a center of trade and a coastal port city to its transformation into a hub of terror under Hamas control. We’ll examine how Gaza and the surrounding region were shaped by Israel’s wars (the War of Independence and the Six-Day War), and by political agreements between nations (the Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty and the Oslo Accords).
Yoran will also discuss the Disengagement Plan, the rise of Hamas, and finally, the cultural and geopolitical consequences of October 7th. Combining historical analysis and geopolitical context, he provides insight into how these developments have influenced public opinion in the region and the West.
Yaron Hovav is a certified Israeli tour guide specializing in geopolitics and in-depth tours of Israel’s borders — including the Gaza border following the events of October 7th, as well as tours in the West Bank and along the northern border. He is experienced in presenting to both Israeli and international audiences.
