Chair’s Message

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the bumper double month edition of our magazine. As October is only a partial event month due to all the Chagim being in the month, it seemed sensible to combine October and November into one edition.

On October 7th, we have the introductory English Without Borders tutors meeting. This is a really worthwhile volunteer opportunity, conversing with school students in English. It really improves their command of English. I should know, I did this for over 10 years, and only stopped when Covid broke out.

One of our key remembrance events is the annual Memorial Service, which will be on the 8th, where we remember all our members, and family of members, who passed away during the year. This is a poignant event – please come and support our bereaved
members.

We will be having a Wine and Cheese event in the Young Israel Synagogue Succah on
the 21st. This is one event for the Chagim worth attending.

Our Counselor Yanina will be continuing her Living in Israel navigation series on the 28th, about the Israeli Health System. The final event in October is a talk and film about the Voyage of the Pentcho by Mark Englander on the 29th.

Going into November, we have a lecture on the 3rd by Chris Berryman on the subject of UK Poppies – the importance of remembrance in the British Military and the Royal Air Force in the Middle East. Poppies will be on
sale, courtesy of the UK Embassy. We will be having our next Bazaar on
the 5th. Please come and support this sale; our volunteers put in such a lot of effort. On the 7th, Mindy and Larry Fogel will be performing songs from the Flower Children era, from the 60s and 70s. Then, on the 11th, Yanina’s next Living in Israel presentation will be on Bituach Leumi, an important part of Israeli society that we all have to know. Harvey Bordowitz’s musical lecture on the 11th will take us on A Musical World Tour. His lectures are always informative and entertaining, with wonderful music. Moshe
Kahan
, a well known American/Israeli, will be giving a lecture on The Strange Pilgrimage of Warder Cresson, on the 12th.

Our New Members Celebration, another of our key events of the year, will be on the 18th. We welcome all our new members of the past year to receive information about our organisation, and it is also a very social event.

My good friend Susan Cohen will be telling us about A Year of Challenges for Lone Soldiers and Olim on the 24th. Susan does a huge amount of volunteering through the organisation that she set up – Tikva by KeepOlim.

As our last event, we welcome back Jason Feddy for a Feature Concert on the 25th.

Once again, there is a packed schedule of lectures and musical events for your edification and enjoyment over this period.

We also have two tiyulim, one in October and one in November. On October 30th there will be an Agriculture & Innovation tiyul to Holon and on November 14th the tiyul will be to the Hamizgaga Museum in Kibbutz Nachsholim and then to the Caesarea area.

We continue to pray for the hostages, that they should be brought home safely and quickly, and also for our brave Chayalim, who are continuously protecting our wonderful country. Am Yisrael Chai.

On behalf of Netanya AACI, I wish you all Shana Tova U’Metuka, it should be a sweet New Year for you, and we should have peace, regarding both the war and our own internal strife.

 Kind regards,
