The Pajama Game (1954), with music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, is a vibrant Broadway musical set in the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory, where workers demand a seven-and-a-half-cent raise. The story centres on the romance between Babe Williams, the head of the grievance committee, and Sid Sorokin, the new factory superintendent, whose love is challenged by the escalating labour dispute. Blending humour, heart, and energetic choreography, the show features memorable songs like “Hey There,” “Steam Heat,” and “Hernando’s Hideaway.” Celebrated for its spirited score and lively staging, it remains a classic example of mid-century musical comedy.
