Flora, Fauna and History (Hula Valley)
Tuesday 18 March
In partnership with HOB Netanya and Happy Loisirs
Today we are finally returning to our beautiful Northern District!
We will journey north, enjoying along the way, the sights of Spring in both the fauna and the flora we will encounter.
We will begin our day at the Hula Nature Reserve, which is located on the worldwide bird migration route, making it an important site for water birds. The most prominent among them being pelicans and cranes, who spend the winter months here. Upon arrival we will have time to watch a sound-light show and two short films about the reserve. There will be the opportunity for participants to hire binoculars and a bird guide. We will then go on a guided birdwatching tour in the hide-and-seek wagon which offers a unique experience of relatively close and undisturbed proximity to the various birds and animals who reside in the reserve.
We will eat our lunches, brought from home, in a picturesque spot whilst enjoying the sounds and sights of nature.
Our final tour of the day is at Tel Hazor, an archaeological Tell (hill) at the site of ancient Hazor which, from the Middle Bronze Age (around 1750 BCE) to the Iron Age (ninth century BCE), was the largest fortified city in the region and one of the most important. It maintained commercial ties with Babylon and Syria, and imported large quantities of tin for the bronze industry.
